The name Iliniza became widespread to indicate both summits, but the Ecuadorians call Iliniza only the
highest (5263m), situated in the South, and the lowest Tioniza (5125m),
situated in the North. These two names come from atacameño origin
and mean respectively "male Peak" and "female peak".
This area for its
topographic conditions present at the mountains Ilinizas and Corazón feet, is known
as Bosque Protector Zarapullo, belonging to the Sigchos canton. For its beauty, Ilinizas, Corazón summits and Quilotoa lagoon, are visited by the Ecuadorian and the foreigners who enjoy ecotourism and andinism. The
ecotourism constitutes one of the valid alternatives for the durable management
of natural resources; it is an activity which allows the rational resources use
favoring at the same time their conservation while giving profits to the local communities, when it is practiced
in a profitable economic, an equitable social and a healthy environmental way...
